Physiotherapy is a vital allied health profession dedicated to enhancing, maintaining, and restoring optimal movement and functional ability throughout an individual’s life. It plays a pivotal role in managing conditions affected by aging, injury, disease, and environmental factors.
Established in 2008, the Department of Physiotherapy at IKDRC–ITS has become a cornerstone of our institute. Each year, the department delivers more than 50,000 physiotherapy sessions, ranging from critical care physiotherapy in the ICU/CCU, to comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for patients undergoing transplantation, surgical interventions, and various medical treatments.
Our outpatient unit is equipped with advanced technology to assess aerobic capacity, pulmonary function, and physical fitness. Along with diagnostic and evaluative services, we provide a wide spectrum of physiotherapy interventions, including individualized pain management, prescription of therapeutic exercises, post-operative rehabilitation, musculoskeletal and neurological care, lifestyle modification programs, and patient education for long-term health maintenance—ensuring evidence-based and goal-oriented rehabilitation tailored to every patient’s needs.
Pioneers in Transplant Rehabilitation
Organ transplantation is one of the greatest medical achievements of the 20th century. With the rapid growth of this field, the demand for specialized rehabilitation before and after transplantation has also increased. However, standardized guidelines in transplant rehabilitation remain limited worldwide. Recognizing this gap, IKDRC–ITS pioneered a unique and specialized program in transplant rehabilitation.
For the first time in India, a Master of Physiotherapy in Transplant Rehabilitation was introduced—making our university the only institution in the country offering this postgraduate program till 2025.
This visionary initiative was conceptualized by Padma Shri Awardee Late Prof. (Dr.) H. L. Trivedi and brought to fruition by the dedicated efforts of Dr. Veena Shah, Dr. Aruna Vanikar, Dr. Pranjal Modi. Dr. Neetaben Vyas, Dr. Bharat B. Tiwari, and Dr. Harda Shah.
